Tell Rhode Island TV Producers to Include Progressive Voices

Posted by: Pat Crowley in Media

There continues to be a lack of progressive voices on the Sunday morning talk show circuit in Rhode Island.  Conservatives are consistently represented while progressives only get a shot infrequently.  Let’s look at this weeks’ line up on the TV:

A Lively Experiment

JIM HAGAN – Moderator DAVE LAYMAN – Former TV news director /anchor JOHN DEPETRO – Talk Host NewsTalk 630 WPRO-AM MARK MURPHY – Editor, Providence Business News KEITH STOKES – Executive Director, Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation

ABC 6 On the Record

Republican Mayor Scott Avedesian

Channel 10 News Conference

Republican Candidate for Congress Mark Zaccaria

Newsmakers

Anti-Union Democrat David Cicilline

Let’s tell the news directors of the TV shows that a little more political diversity will serve Rhode Island better than the Amen chorus of anti-worker “just pay people less” rhetoric that dominates Sunday morning TV.

Will you also be advocating for more libertarian voices on RI TV or does diversity only cut one way?

Show me the petition to get more progressives AND libertarians on RI TV and I'll sign it.

Once again, you miss the point. You are trying to frame something in terms of fundamental unfairness when really it is just about YOUR group not getting THEIRS i.e. the union mentality. That was the point my post was illustrating, not that I really give a crap what they air on RI TV.

Bob Walsh - NEA
Sen. Josh Miller - Chairman of Corporations Committee
Ian Donnis - WRNI
Peter Asen - OSA

Calling David Cicilline and pro-union mayor Scott Avedisian demonstrates either ignorance or dishonesty.

Pat, you are looking only at a single week. You might be able to make a point if you look at a 3-month period.

how about radio?

I'd love to hear one of you go on Yorke or Allen's show for an hour. Go take them on. I'm sure they'd love to have you.

Would pay good money to hear that, ROC.

"Take them on?"

I doubt Yorke or Allen have ever spent an hour with anyone Left of Center in their lives. They wouldn't even know how to act, because those types are so used to straw men, sound bytes, and studio booths that don't talk back.

As for TV, Tucker Carlson gets props for doing his show live. He runs the risk of being embarrassed just like anyone else.

Really?
written by right_of_center, February 08, 2010
Really Bruce? Who's building up the strawman now? I bet Yorke would give just about anything to have some of the names listed above come on the show. I bet it would just take a phone call and they'd get their slot. Yeah, he's really afraid of a fight in the studio...

maybe so!
written by Bruce Reilly, February 09, 2010
I would like to hear it. But I do know that some folks listed above might not want any of these opportunities because they disagree with a format where they have 2 minutes to be witty on a subject they may have been working on for years.

Has Yorke done an hour with a single guest before? Is that his format?
(I confess to never having heard any of their shows, nor buddy either) I did Tucker's show and found it to be fine- but in hindsight, theres a lot of pressure to be clear and concise. More than a few great people aren't wired to be fast talkers. Ever see the Dalai Lama speak?

I was on Yorke before

I did an afternoon with Yorke in 2007. I haven't been asked back...maybe because he lost the debate? (Hi Dan)
