The Governor's Latest Staff Choice

Brian was brought on as an intern back in January and has been in the Office on Policy and Legislation, a very disconcerting position for someone who thinks the government should have no role in the economy.
Brian likes to frame politics as a dysfunctional and counterproductive battle between "us vs. them" when feigning populism and railing against the excesses of government intrusion. But then he talks about how the government trying to do anything is a direct attack on free markets and makes blanket inferences that anyone who would like to see the government perform functions for the public good is a commie socialist. Wouldn't that be an indication of a "us vs. them" mentality?
Oh, and this just so happens to be his last week... but we won't take credit for that.... Or will we?!?!
Update #3 – One last tease, I promise
What employee of Governor Carcieri said this when he wasn’t an employee to the Governor?
It appears the Good Guv’nah Don Carcieri didn’t take into count the accrued sick/vacation time of state workers he convinced to retire early. Now he’s up in arms, citing such practices would never pass in the private sector. It appears to me somebody in his administration dropped the ball on that one, and it’s too late to turn it around. Sorry Donny, but you get my nod as Grinch of the Year.
Update #2: Who said these things?
“Was Rep. Trillo hammered when he wanted to vote on ice cream rather than tackle the budget? I don’t know. Maybe he was. Was Rep. Diaz sauced when she tried to allow in-state tuition for illegals? Possibly. Were Rep. Almeida and Rep. Metts (sic) hitting grampa’s “cough syrup” when they attempted to have “plantations” removed from the state’s name? Who knows, but I’d bet on it”
“This latest ploy by the race pimps will hopefully serve as nothing more than an embarrassing blemish on their political records.”
“It comes as no surprise Most Marxist Messiah BaRockstar Hussein NoBama has clinched the title fair and square.”
“Carcieri gets the Regular Guy seal of approval. I envision him strolling the halls of the State House in a pair of Black Oakley sunglasses (prescription of course) draped in bullet belts brandishing a M-60 with a back up tactical shotgun strapped to his back. “
How about someone who was hired in the Governor’s office AFTER he made these statements.
Update #1: Remember the supposed hiring freeze? Here is the Projo story about it. Apparently, it wasn't in effect for this hire, which took place in January. Because what could be more important than a policy position in the Governor's office.
Stay tuned for some insight on who the Governor has hired onto his staff in the waning months of his administration. Here is a hint: if you thought the Tea Party was an outsider movement....think again.

I'm just waiting for Pat to come out and spill the beans out of deference.

Umm, yeah. She must have been deeply on the sauce to propose that.

Many of us are in government in an attempt to make it smaller. There is nothing "disconcerting" about it. Isn't that what you always tell people, to get involved if they don't like the way things are? I guess that only applies to union members when they want a pay raise.

I think Gov. Carcieri is the prototypical empty suit, and he has done nothing to limited the swollen ranks of State givernment upper managment, but is this intern even getting paid?

You see, the “new hire” he’s referring to is, in fact, me. And yes, I am currently working in the Governor’s policy office…as an intern. On top of that, my internship ends this Friday.
I guess Comrade Crowley didn’t do a very good job with his research, which should cause everyone to question the research (or lack thereof) behind his other posts. Once again, the integrity of this blog is weakened by knee-jerk reactions from Pat. It’s too bad for all the credible people who post here.
If it helps you to sleep better at night thinking you brought about my Friday deadline, more power to you. The fact of the matter is I am leaving Friday to begin a new job on Monday. And no, I don’t regularly post here. I was kicked off the blog for pointing out Patrick’s factual inadequacies back before he sold it to Brian. I re-subscribed to address this post, which references me directly.
Oh, and to everyone who thinks an internship in the Governor’s policy office is a “disconcerting position”, my duties included updating databases, stamping paperwork, answering phones and various other responsibilities. Pat didn’t “ferret” anything, he jumped to an irrational conclusion, presented it as fact and you bought it. Hook, line and sinker.
Face it; this is just another menial blog with the same 12-15 people patting each other on the back for what amounts to a heap of nothing. If this helps you make it through your day a little easier, fine.
Another point: 93 teacher’s jobs are on the line in Central Falls, five schools in Providence are in danger of the same fate, a new funding formula is being introduced by the education commissioner and this is what the NEA has its people working on? Take a good, long look, teachers. This is what your weekly dues are going towards.
Did you know that in NEA-RIs 2008 LM-2 filing (http://www.lrbwatch.org/docs/NEA2009LM2.pdf I’ll make it; easy go to p.39) , Pat Crowley made over $87,000? All paid for by union dues. I’m willing to bet he’s since received a hefty raise after taking over NEAs legislative affairs (again, all union dues). According to a recent RIPEC paper I had the pleasure of reading; the highest paid teacher in RI only makes $75,940.
If I was a teacher and my dues were going towards the salary of people like Pat Crowley, I’d think he would be busy working on projects which have my best interest in mind. Clearly that’s not the case, as he’s far too preoccupied with “outing” State House interns.
Hey Pat, what’s that number to cancel my ProJo subscription?

This blog has the potential to be a fantastic forum between right and left leaning Rhode Islanders. Brian Hull can harness both audiences and really smash ideological boundaries with this forum.
Unfortunately he feels as though he has some sort of obligation to young Patrick. I only hope he can come to his senses before RIFuture loses all credibility due to the actions of a few posters. Until the dead weight is cut loose, this site is doomed to wallow in the few subscribers it holds. Never expanding, never evolving.
